Data Sources & Methodology
At DamLevels.com, accuracy and reliability are paramount. We strictly rely on official, government-published data to populate our reservoir and catchment trackers.
Primary Data Providers
- Bureau of Meteorology (BOM): The primary source for National Water Account data, historic inflows, and climate outlooks.
- WaterNSW: Provides real-time telemetry for Greater Sydney and regional New State Wales dams.
- Seqwater & Sunwater: Official providers for Queensland's water grid and regional storages.
- Melbourne Water: Data source for Victoria's catchment and reservoir storage figures.
- Water Corporation (WA) & SA Water: Providers for Western Australia and South Australia storages respectively.
Update Frequency
Our automated systems fetch and process JSON/XML feeds from these providers daily. While some authorities publish live telemetry hourly, our database generally reflects a 24-hour snapshot to ensure consistency across all national datasets.
Data Processing
Raw volume (measured in Megalitres or Gigalitres) is mapped against the known maximum storage capacity of each dam to calculate the Current Fill Percentage. The 7-Day Change metric is calculated by comparing the current volume against our rolling 7-day historical database entries.
